Tricky Field to Provide Lots of Treats in 2008 Super 32

Profiling the 2008 Super32:
This year’s event will be held on Saturday, November 1st at the Greensboro Coliseum Special Events Center in Greensboro, NC. Wrestling will commence at 8AM for the one day event. Approximately 60 wrestlers in this year’s field were All-Americans at the Cadet/Junior Nationals in Fargo ND this past summer. Over 90 wrestlers earned state titles in 2008, and over 20 wrestlers that were ranked in the year-end (2008) Intermat all-class rankings are among the wrestlers in the field.

103 pounds:
This weight class features eight wrestlers that made a state finals appearance in 2008. State champions were Earl Hall (Robert Morgan FL), Taylor Whitt (Norfolk Academy VA), and Ben Creed (Ragsdale NC). Finishing runner-up were Kyle Bauer (Wheeling Central WV), Tim Ellison (Boulder Creek AZ), Tanner Moon (Oak Mountain AL), David Tran (Sanderson NC), and Brandon Davis (Hodgson Vo-Tech DE).
One of the traditional stories in this weight is the impact of younger wrestlers. Two of those stars are Tulsa Nationals champion Nathan Kraisser (Centennial MD) and Cliff Keen Triple Crown winner Ben Whitford (St John’s MI).
Additionally, ten wrestlers earned All-American honors this past summer in Fargo, ND at the Cadet/Junior Freestyle Nationals; Nick Roberts (North Star PA), Freddie Rodriguez (Holt MI), Joe Orecchio (Don Bosco Prep NJ), Terrel Wilbourn (Francis Howell Central MO), Davis, Kraisser, Billy Hagany (Lenape Valley NJ), Joey Dance (Poquoson VA), Moon, and Eric Friedman (St Paul’s MD).
Other wrestlers to eye include Uland Ralston (Lorain Southview OH), third in the big-school division; Nick Francavilla (High Point NJ), state placer; and Alex Cisneros (Selma CA), freshman sensation.

112 pounds:
There are ten wrestlers in this weight class that were atop the podium in 2008. Another double digit group of wrestlers finished as state runners-up. Among the state champions were Nick Arujau (St Anthony’s NY), Sean Boylan (St Mark’s DE), Devin Carter (Christianburg VA), Robert Dyar (Vestavia Hills AL), Scott Mantua (River Hill MD), Steve Spradlin (Camden County GA), and Timdarius Thurston (Wingate Andrews NC). Those finishing second included Kory Mines (Maple Hts OH), Brian St James (Centennial GA), and Bricker Dixon (Park Hill MO).
Boylan and Dyar were Junior National Freestyle All-Americans this past summer in Fargo, ND. Cody Pack (Quincy CA) and Ryan Renkey (Brandon FL) were Junior Greco All-Americans, Carter and Dixon earned Cadet Greco All-American honors. In the summer of 2007, Nico Megaludis (Franklin Regional PA) and Cameron Thockmorton (South Western PA) earned Cadet Freestyle All-American honors.
Other wrestlers to watch include Jerome Robinson (St Ignatius), a former Super32 and big-school state placer; state placer Narcisco Inchaurregui (Lorain Southview OH); and NHSCA Sophomore Nationals runner-up Myron Bradbury (Trinity KY).

119 pounds:
Fifteen wrestlers in this weight class rose to the top step of the podium in their state tournaments this past year, and eight additional wrestlers were in the state finals match. Among the notables from this list are state champions Tyler Cox (Campbell County WY), Sean Dolan (St Mark’s DE), David Klingsheim (Liberty CA), Zach Neibert (Graham OH), Alan Waters (Park Hill MO), Alan Waters (Park Hill MO), Roger Wildmo (Durand MI), and Brandon Wright (Cathedral IN); state runners-up include Frank Goodwin (Mt St Joseph MD), Shane Gentry (Colonial Forge VA), and Camden Eppert (Anderson Highland IN). Former state finalists finishing third place in 2008 were TJ Mitchell (Collins Hill GA), and James Inghram (University School).
Waters and Eppert were Junior Freestyle All-Americans this past summer; Wright a Cadet Freestyle champion; and Mitchell Port (Bellefonte PA) was a Cadet Freestyle All-American.
Other wrestlers to watch include returning Super32 placers AJ Schopp (Tyrone PA) and Zach Huxford (Jackson Memorial NJ); and Tulsa Nationals runner-up Case Garrison (Bishop Lynch TX).

125 pounds:
Approximately twenty wrestlers competing in this weight class were state finalists in 2008, with over a dozen seizing first place. Notable among the state champions were Tucker Armstrong (Graham OH), Jimmy Chase (Glenbard North IL), Jamie Franco (Monroe-Woodbury NY), Michael Garofalo (Colonial Forge VA), Tony James (Holt MO), Seth Milks (Dakota IL), Brandon Westerman (McEachern GA), Ryne Cokeley (St James Academy KS), and Cashe Quiroga (Lawrence North IN).
Eric Dunnet (Eastern Regional NJ) was a Junior Freestyle All-American; Tyler Spangler (St Christopher’s VA) was a Junior Greco All-American; Armstrong, Cokeley, Nick Soto (Springstead FL), and Justin Tsirtsis (Crown Point IN) were Cadet Freestyle All-Americans; and Aaron Runzo (Kellam VA) was a Cadet Greco champion. NHSCA grade-level All-Americans included Garofalo, Dunnet, Quiroga, Mike Morales (Brick Memorial NJ), and Soto.
Others to watch include state placers Jordan Rich (Central Mountain PA), Ronnie Garbinsky (Tyrone PA), and Nick Pena (Selma CA); as well as former state champion Frank Cagnina (Queen of Peace NJ).

130 pounds:
Ten state champions from 2008 are entered in this weight class, with another five state runners-up registered for the competition. Notable among the champions are Henry Carlson (Vestavia Hills AL), Jacob Creed (Ragsdale NC), Josh Harper (Mishawaka IN), Corey Mock (Chapel Hill NC), Dan Osterman (St John’s MI), Jeremy Sandoval (Colleyville Heritage TX), Joe DeNova (Columbus GA), and Erik Spjut (The Woodlands TX). Runners-up include Anthony Curcio (Washington Township NJ), Shawn Fayette (Miamisburg OH), and Taylor Walsh (Camden Catholic NJ).
Carlson was third in Cadet Freestyle; DeNova was a Cadet Greco All-American; and Jacob Walters (St John’s MI) was a Junior Greco All-American. NHSCA grade-level All-Americans include Carlson, Spjut, Mock, and Jordan Beverly (Point Pleasant Boro).
Others wrestlers to watch include state placers Nick Schenk (St Mark’s DE), Ian Squires (Colonial Forge VA), Chris and Nick Dardanes (Oak Park River Forest), Sam Sherlock (West Mifflin PA), Clark Glass (Brandon FL), Connor Morgan (Del Oro CA), and Kyler Killian (Middletown PA).

135 pounds:
Six wrestlers in this bracket earned state titles last year – most notably David Taylor (Graham OH), Joey Lazor (Union Grove GA), Andrew Williams (Tabb VA), and Craig Eifert (Mason MI). Approximately ten wrestlers were state runners-up; they include Josh Kindig (Blue Mountain PA), Joe Lospinoso (David Brealey NJ), Wilson Metellus (South Dade FL), Kodie Silvestri (Walkill Valley NJ), Joel Smith (Collins Hill GA).
Kindig was a double runner-up at Junior Nationals in Fargo, ND this past summer; Josh Dziewa (Pennsbury PA) was a double All-American at the Cadet Nationals; Ellis Coleman (Oak Park River Forest IL) and Paul Liguori (Wantagh NY) were Junior Greco-Roman All-Americans. Other NHSCA grade-level All-Americans were Silvestri, Metellus, Lazor, Stephen Dutton (Rocky Point NY), Josh Clark (Matoaca VA), Derrick Russell (Jackson Memorial NJ), Marshall Robinson (Smithfield VA), and Scott Bosak (State College PA).
Others to watch include state placer Roman Perryman (Robinson VA).

140 pounds:
Nine wrestlers were state champions in 2008, while four others earned runner-up honors. Included among the state champions were Ben Dorsay (Cox VA), TJ Duncan (McCallie TN), Mike Nevinger (Letchworth School NY), and Steve Sandefer (Mishawaka IN).
Both Andrew Alton (Central Mountain PA) and Taylor Massa (St John’s MI) were double finalists in Fargo, ND this past summer; Alton was runner-up in Junior Greco and champion in Junior Freestyle, while Massa took home titles in both the Cadet Greco and Freestyle competitions. Mark Hartenstine (Easton PA) was champion at the NHSCA grade-level nationals and the Reno Tournament of Champions. Colin Shober (Schuykill Valley PA) was also an NHSCA grade-level champion.
Other wrestlers to watch include state placer Troy Silver (Bishop Lynch TX), as well as Cody Bollinger (Sultana CA).

145 pounds:
Approximately twenty wrestlers registered for this weight class appeared in state finals last season, with twelve of them state champions. Notable among the state champions are Dylan Alton (Central Mountain PA), Joe Cozart (Brandon FL), Daniel Domanico (Lovett GA), Harrison Hightower (University School OH), Kaleb Friedley (Park Hill MO), Jackson Morse (Lowell MI), Joey Napoli (Cumberland Valley PA), Caleb Rought (Fremont MI), and Kevin Timothy (Brandon FL). State runners-up include Derek Olson (Muskego WI) and Brandon Wilbourn (Francis Howell Central MO).
Alton was a Junior National double champion; Blake Roulo (Matoaca VA) was a Cadet double All-American; Gabriel Bird (Osceola FL) was a Junior Freestyle All-American; Friedley and Trevor Wiest (Fort Zumwalt West MO) were Cadet Freestyle All-Americans; while Timothy, Cozart, Domanico, and Olson were Junior Greco-Roman All-Americans. Roulo earned an NHSCA grade-level championship.
Other wrestlers to watch include state placers Justin Martinez (Wyoming Seminary PA), David Habat (St Ignatius OH), Taylor March (East Noble IN), Jayshon Wilson (Carlisle PA), and Emmanuel Ajagbe (Bogota NJ).

152 pounds:
There are approximately fifteen wrestlers in this weight class that had a state finals appearance from last year; almost evenly split between the top step of the podium and one step below that. Notable among the state champions are John Hayden Countryman (Prattville AL), Harrison Courtney (Woodford County KY), Taylor Knapp (Collins Hill GA), Adam Miller (Sparta MI), and Marshall Peppelman (Central Dauphin PA). Included in the state runners-up are Sam Bennett (Anderson Highland IN), Alex Eggers (Osceola FL), Gabe Brotzman (Cary NC), and Joey Grainger (Great Bridge VA).
Wally Figaro (Brandon FL) was a Cadet double All-American. Brandon Rolnick (Lawrenceville NJ) was a Cadet Freestyle champion in 2007.
Others to watch include state placers Jon McGookey (Perkins OH), Troy Hernandez (Kittatiny NJ), David Henry (St Mark’s TX), Patrick Downey (Mt St Joseph MD), and Matt Spataro (Bergen Catholic NJ); along with state qualifiers Jackson Brady (Eastern Regional NJ) and Travis Gallegos (Foothill CA).

160 pounds:
Only four state champions and three state runners-up are present in the field of this weight class. Notable among the champions are Nolan McBryde (Chugiak AK) and Daniel McGillvary (Fauquier VA); and Briar Runyan (Martinsville IN) was a state runner-up.
Stephen West (Buchanan CA) and Corey Lear (Benton PA) were Junior Freestyle All-Americans, in addition to finishing third in their respective state tournaments. Kyle Ryan (Graham OH) and Ian Korb (Elder OH) were champions of the NHSCA Freshman Nationals; Nick Visicaro (Long Branch NJ) was second, and Tristan Warner (Cumberland Valley) third, at the NHSCA Sophomore Nationals; and Marc Bryan (St Ignatius OH) was eighth at the NHSCA Junior Nationals.
Others to watch include state placers Justin Armstrong (Bishop Lynch TX), Jack Roberts (Union Grove GA), and Ed Shupe (Council Rock South PA); as well as freshman sensation Jason Luster (Woodbury Forest VA).

171 pounds:
Two wrestlers – Ethan Blackstock (Alexander GA) and Robb Wannenburg (West Forsyth NC) – were state champions in 2008. The three runners-up were Tanner Eitel (Bishop Lynch TX), Braden Carter (Christianburg VA), and Matt Chapman (Peachtree Ridge GA).
Blackstock was a double Cadet All-American, while Levi Clemons (Osceola FL) was a Cadet Greco-Roman champion. Ed Ruth (Blair Academy NJ) was champion of the NHSCA Junior Nationals; Sam Curtis (Clover CA) was champion of the NHSCA Freshman Nationals.
Others to watch include state placers Nick Milano (Erie Cathedral Prep PA), Anthony Saulle (Delran NJ), Stephen McPeek (Southlake Carroll TX), and Colin Lenhardt (Gloucester TX); additionally pay attention to Stu Corless (Roxbury Latin MA) and Andrew Clement (Grassfield VA).

189 pounds:
Derrick Borlie (Millbrook VA) is the sole state champion in this weight classification. The five state runners-up are Billy Curling (Great Bridge VA), Samuel Kuntz (Peachtree Ridge GA), Jonathan Todd (Byrnes SC), King Crawford (Lexington SC), and Dillon Kern (Fowlerville MI).
Harrison Honeycutt (Lake Norman NC) was a double Cadet All-American this past summer, and Ben Brooks (Oak Park River Forest IL) was a double FILA Cadet All-American. Nick Ruggear (Oxford Area PA) was champion of the NHSCA Sophomore Nationals; while Borlie and Joe Piro (Northampton PA) were placers at the NHSCA Junior Nationals.
Other wrestlers to watch include state placers Nick Mills (University School OH), Dallas Brown (Delone Catholic PA), and Josh Smith (Octorara PA).

215 pounds:
The sole state champion in this weight is Christian McLean (Southwest Guilford NC). The pair of state runners-up is Antonio Giorgio (Warwick PA) and Nicholas McDiarmid (Flowerville MI).
Willie Wiggins (South Dade FL) was a Junior Greco All-American, and McDiarmid a Cadet Greco All-American. Giorgio and Pierce Embry (Kempsville VA) are returning Super32 placers. Joey Spicer (Sussex Central DE) was runner-up at the NHSCA Freshman Nationals.
Others to watch are state qualifier and Ironman placer Ryan Nelisse (Elyria OH).

285 pounds:
Leading the way in this weight class is two-time defending Super32 champion Sam Brownlee (Canon-McMillan PA). Two state placers populate this weight class; state runner-up Andrew Severson (St Benedict TN), and third-place finishers Adam Peters (Cleveland TN).
